History of the castle

Hohenzollern Castle looks back on around 1.000 years of building and family history. Both glorious and dark times have marked its path. Today's castle is already the third fortress on the Zoller Mountain. After the destruction and decay of its two predecessors, it was rebuilt between 1850 and 1867 - bigger and more beautiful than ever before. And the castle is still privately owned by the Hohenzollern family. It once served the Counts of Zollern as a secure bulwark in times of war. Today, it opens its gates every day to peaceful visitors from all over the world and offers a glimpse into its magnificent chambers.
